Fiji’s annual inflation rate rose to 9.0% in October 2026 from 6.8% in September, reaching its highest level since October 2011. The acceleration was primarily driven by a sharp increase in food prices, with food inflation surging to 11.6%—the highest since April 2024—up from 7.6% in the previous month. Housing inflation also picked up, rising to 6.8% from a four-month low of 4.9%, while transport inflation climbed to a four-month high of 17.6% from 12.2%. Inflation accelerated as well in household equipment and routine household maintenance (0.4% vs 0.1%).

By contrast, price growth slowed for miscellaneous goods and services (2.9% vs 3.1%) and for furnishings, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco (12.9% vs 13.9%), while remaining unchanged for clothing and footwear. Education inflation held steady at 0.4%. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.9% in October, rebounding strongly from a 0.4% decline in September and marking the first monthly increase in four months.
