Asian equities fell on Tuesday, mirroring overnight declines on Wall Street as technology and artificial intelligence stocks remained under sustained selling pressure. Investor sentiment was further weighed down by caution ahead of the US midterm elections, while a drop in oil prices—driven by signs of diplomatic progress between the US and Iran—was not enough to lift broader risk appetite.

South Korea’s Kospi led regional losses, declining nearly 3%, with heavyweight chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics each losing more than 3%. Chinese stocks also retreated, as both the Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Component indexes finished lower, despite the central bank’s pledge to encourage financial institutions to make greater use of stock-market support tools and to improve their terms in an effort to stabilize the market. Japanese financial markets were closed for a national holiday.
